Skavdis

Associate Professor, Democritus University of Thrace

George Skavdis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics (MBG) of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). He studied Biology at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, completed his PhD at the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (University of Crete, 1996) and worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute for Medical Research, London (currently Crick Institute, 1996-2000) with a TMR fellowship granted from the EU. His current interests focus on the study of gene expression and the development of Diagnostic Technology of Molecular Biology. He has published 17 research articles in peer reviewed journals (EMBO J., J. Biotechnology, Insect Molecular Biology, etc. citations >650).

His work at MBG-DUTH has been supported by 10 research grants (FP7-REGPOT-2008-1, INTERREG IIIA, Bilateral S&T cooperation etc) with a total appx 3M€ (coordinator in 5 of them).
