Katerina Paleologou

Assistant Professor, Democritus University of Thrace

Katerina Paleologou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics (MBG) of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). She obtained her BSc (Hons, Biochemistry with Biomedicine, 1999), MSc (Biomedical Science, 2001) and PhD (Biological Sciences, 2006) from the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Lancaster (UK). She then carried out postdoctoral research in the School of Life Sciences at the Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, and in 2012, she joined MBG-DUTH as Lecturer in Molecular & Cellular Biology with emphasis on the Nervous System. Since 2015, she has been working as Assistant Professor at the same department.

Her research interests revolve around neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, the understanding of their molecular and genetic basis and the development of novel approaches for their treatment.
