Marirena Grigoriou

Professor, Democritus University of Thrace

Μarirena Grigoriou is Professor and Chair at the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics (MBG) of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). She studied Biology at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed her PhD at the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (University of Crete, 1993). She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Medicine, University of Crete (1993-1995) and at the National Institute for Medical Research, London (currently Crick Institute, 1995-2000) with a Marie Curie fellowship granted from the European Union. Her research interests focus on functional networks in cellular/animal models and on the development of methods and applications of Molecular Biology. She has published 27 research articles in peer reviewed journals (Nature, J Neuroscience, Development etc, citations >3500).

Her work at MBG-DUTH has been supported by 9 research grants (FP7-REGPOT-2008-1, INTERREG IIIA, Bilateral S&T cooperation etc) with a total appx 2,8M€ (coordinator in 3 of them).
